3-Day Pre-Congress Tour - Research, dairy farming and world famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

On this route delegates learn about the research on a satellite dairy Sahiwal herd by the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization and specialized dairy and beef farm on the floor of the Rift valley. They will experience the unique Maasai Mara game reserve and the specter that is the "Great Wildebeest Migration". This tour covers approximately 700 Km from Nairobi, through the Great Rift Valley to the scenic view of the wildlife in world renowned Maasai Mara national reserve and back to Nairobi.

The price of the tour will cover the costs of accommodation, transportation, entry fees into parks and museums, an information booklet and meals (breakfast and lunches). Please note that delegates will be required to cater for their evening meals (dinner). The 3 day tour scheduled from 19th to 21st October 2021, will be full of adventure and learning.

Maasai Mara 3 Day Tour Itinerary 

DAY 1 - Tuesday, October 19TH 2021

  • Departure time - 8.00 am           
  • Stop-over time – 4.0 hours           
  • Travelling time – 5.0 hours         
  • Arrival - 6.00 pm

1) Rift Valley View Point -  Great Rift valley bird eye-view; farming activities - former large scale settler farms; dormant Mt. Longonot crater.  *Place for refreshing and buying traditional artifacts.

2) KALRO Dairy Research Institute  - KALRO's cutting edge research in dairy production; Sahiwal breed satellite herd and research. This is one of the few pure Sahiwal herds outside its native Pakistan.

  • Lunch break at Kalro Naivasha.

3) Marula Farm - Large scale dairy and beef production; Organic products - honey; horticulture for local and export market.

4) In the afternoon delegates will leave for Narok. Along the way they will see land use changes from pastoralism to agro-pastoralism (wheat farming) and typical Maasai livestock markets.

DAY 2 - Wednesday, October 20TH 2021

  • Departure time - 8.00 am           
  • Stop-over time – 1.0 hour           
  • Travelling time – 3.5 hours         
  • Arrival – 12.30 pm (Maasai Mara Game Park)

1) NAROK - Large scale wheat farming; rangeland land use changes.

2) Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association - Wildlife conservation efforts; group ranches; Ecotourism. Maasai Mara National Reserve - Maasai Mara national reserve is situated in south-west Kenya and is one of Africa's Greatest Wildlife Reserves. Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania it forms Africa's most diverse, incredible and most spectacular Ecosystems and possibly the world's top safari big game viewing Eco-system; Great wildebeest migration-seventh wonder of the world.

  • Delegates will arrive at Keekorok Lodge by noon and be booked into their rooms. 
  • Lunch break, will have a game drive the whole afternoon.
  • There are scheduled day & night game drives, sun-downers and bush breakfast.

* Delegates will experience the Air balloon excursions.(optional at own cost - 450 dollars). Possibility of viewing the great wildebeest migration; night out in Maasai Mara.

DAY 3 - Thursday, October 21ST 2021

  • Departure time - 10.00 am           
  • Stop-over time – 1.5 hours           
  • Travelling time – 4.5 hours         
  • Arrival – 12.30 pm (Maasai Mara Game Park)

There is a planned early morning game drive (optional) starting at 4.00 am

Breakfast will be served at 9.00 am and delegates will start their journey back to Nairobi.

Delegates will see a Maasai village on their way back to Narok

1) NAROK - Livelihood transition from crop agriculture into rangeland and pastoral Maasai grazing areas; group ranches; community conservancies; Maasai manyatta.

  • Lunch break at Seasons Hotel at 1.00 pm.
  • Delegates will then proceed Back to Nairobi

NAROK - NAIROBI  - End of 3 day pre-congress Maasai Mara tour.
